The first meeting of the Savannah Chapter of Christian Women in Media Association, CWIMA, was the first of many to enrich the Christian media community. President Larinda King said, “The purpose of this chapter is to influence, inspire, and make an impact. Every person has a calling on their life, and everyone who knows anyone has an opportunity to influence, inspire, and or impact someone’s life.”

Several women who are operating or inspiring to operate in the media via books, journalism, education, television, and radio came out to the meeting. One participant, Denise Polote-Kelly said, “My experience has been awesome. I’m so glad that I came out tonight. I’m humble and grateful that God showed me the site on Eventbright.”

Suellen Roberts, founder of CWIMA, started the association in 2002 after founding JOY TV in 1995 and serving on the NRB TV committee 6 years. “Her heart’s desire is to teach people to know God more intimately as they base their lives on biblical principals,” King said.

The scripture reference for the association is Esther 4:14 (NKJV). The scripture urges you not to remain silent and not allowing people to perish, but rather being obedient as Esther did. One focus of the meeting was to let women know that when operating in media, “You are someone’s hope, you can inspire, impact, and influence many by telling your life story, King said.

Christopher King, husband of Larinda King, said, “I think it is an awesome opportunity for people in this area to be able to make an impact on more than just this area. I’m inspired by my wife all the time. What she does on a regular basis is amazing to me and it’s another opportunity to see her grow as she gives others the opportunity to grow as well.”

King encouraged everyone at the meeting to attend the Global Media Summit, hosted by the CWIMA, in Dallas, Texas. The summit is an annual event for Christian media professionals, men included, to attend workshops with the world’s most prominent Christian media professionals. “I’ve attended two universities for my bachelor’s and master’s degree, and I felt like I learned more just at the summit alone,” King said.
