When you hear the cover to a secular song with Jesus added to the tag, does it really take you into worship, or are you thinking, that’s my song? If it is your song, when you listen to the original, does it draw you to worship God?
For me, it doesn’t. Don’t bring up my 90’s playlist in praise and worship! I buried that with my old life in search for a new one. For all my theologians out there, I know the Bible doesn’t have a scripture that says, “Thou shalt not partake of secular music,” but it does offer an interesting perspective.
I like to be logical. Satan was in Heaven. He was the chief musician in Heaven (Ezekiel 28:13). Satan fell. What does a musician do when they are kicked off the label but that’s all they know? They keep making music, but in this case, it wouldn’t be about Christ. Assuming you believe that Satan is real, what would logically be one of Satan’s key devices of deception? Music!
To me, it’s not just a genre of music, but it’s a motive. If God has given you a platform to worship Him, don’t compromise and be lukewarm, and then we have the audacity to be upset when Kanye comes out with a Gospel song.
The Bible clearly says, “Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them” (1 John 2:15). I’m not trying to be deep saints, but I want my Fatherly love!
I want to hear your take on this subject. How do you think GOD FEELS, about the merge of secular music in the Gospel arena? Let’s run it down!
Honestly, I feel like it is a double edge sword because secular artist use Christian’s beats as well so I believe some christian producers do not feel like it is a problem to mix music. I agree that old man should die, but I think the some artists believes compromising and playing worldly music with their lyrics about God will eventually win a soul to the Kingdom.
