NO JUSTICE, NO PEACE! NO JUSTICE, NO PEACE! NO JUSTICE, NO PEACE!
These are the words of protestors who have marched in different cities to have their voices heard concerning the death of George Floyd. As people gather in groups to march, is everyone’s stance of reasoning of the same foundation? Is everyone’s intent the same for reconciliation as well as justice?
As Christians protesting for justice for African Americans and police brutality, will there be no peace if justice isn’t served? This statement struck me in a different way as I watched and heard protestors chant.
Believers have to examine what justice and peace look like in the eyes of God. As scripture states in Romans 12:19, “ Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, ‘Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,’ says the Lord.”
As an African American Christian, I had to let my feelings of anger out by praying to God that He would show me and the Body of Christ what to do. At the same time, I had to also know that God is in control. Does that mean I should go out and destroy other places so that my point can be made? No. We have to be careful as scripture also states in Ephesians 4:26, “Be angry, and do not sin: do not let the sun go down on your wrath, nor give place to the devil”.
There are so many acts being done on a natural level, but we as Christians need to be the voice of light in the midst by coming together to pray against the injustice and against the spirit of wrath that is ailing the people of this land. We should use our right to vote to put people in office that have the same beliefs as us. As believers, let’s leave the justice and peace unto God.
