For the fifth time in history, Gospel has hit the big streets as pioneer Pastor Shirley Caesar, is honored with her very own star in Hollywood’s Walk of Fame. On Tuesday, June 28, 2016, Hollywood Chamber of Commerce President and CEO stated, “We are proud to welcome the Reigning Queen of Gospel, Shirley Caesar to our famous walk of Fame. She is known as a musical trailblazer who has influenced a wide range of artists across genres. Her career has made an incredible mark on American music and the sounds of gospel.”
Pastor Caesar’s name rests along with other Gospel trailblazers such as Rev. James Cleveland, Mahalia Jackson, Andrae Crouch, and BeBe and CeCe Winans.
The “I Remember Mama,” “Put Your Hand in the Hand of the Man from Galilee,” and “Jesus, How I Love Calling Your Name” singer, also known as the Queen of Gospel, has been in the gospel industry for over 50 years, recorded over 15 albums, won 11 Grammy and 18 Dove awards, which made her the first African American female winner since Mahalia Jackson.
Beyond the streets of Hollywood, Caesar’s name is also known within the White House as she has sung for every U.S. president since the reign of President Jimmy Carter.
During Pastor Ceasar’s July 2016 interview with her hometown station, Durham, North Carolina ABC11, she stated, “I want to leave such a wonderful legacy behind so that other young people will say that there was something in her that I want in my life.”
Through her recent accomplishments, it appears that Pastor Caesar has accomplished all that she has desired as her mark has been made.
