Almost two months have passed since Covid-19 terrorized U.S. soil, leaving millions of Americans scrambling to make sense of where we stand as a society for the present and the future. Due to the virus, many Americans are home-bound, furloughed and unemployed. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the unemployment rate rose to 4.4 percent in March, reflecting the effects of Covid-19 on essential and non-essential workers.
Covid-19 has forced many across the globe to take their business virtually. Virtual entrepreneurs are depending on social sites such as Facebook, Instagram, Etsy and even independent business opportunities like Mary Kay Inc. to utilize their abilities and crafts to produce income for themselves.
Ebony & Ivory Professional Svcs, LLC, founder/CEO Teia Acker has made moves to go the extra mile on behalf of her clients to ensure that during this time, they can obtain success as an entrepreneur or a work-at-home employee.
As a single mother of two, as a prior 6th grade teacher for 11 years in the education system, Acker understands the anxiety and struggle of her clients.
“I have had several conversations with many small business owners who were thinking about throwing in the towel,” Acker says. “The pandemic is affecting many in various avenues.”
Pressures of failing to have a contingency plan, finding a job during this time, and the pressures of failing have crippled many beginning entrepreneurs and small business owners.
Acker suggests that the best way to navigate in the land of the unknown or unfamiliar is to study those who have mastered it. She advises that many businesses should take this time to study and identify areas of growth during this time to prepare for what’s to come in the future.
“My advice has been and will continue to be ‘prepare for war in the time of peace’,” Acker advises to many entrepreneurs. “Be consistent and be an answer to someone’s needs.”
