Columbia Records has recently signed Lecrae and his 116 Crew. Lecrae’s decision to join Columbia Records has stirred up a controversial debate. The news of his signing came simultaneously with the release of his new book, Unashamed.
Some consider the move a wise business venture. Others find it to be a form of selling out—compromising his beliefs for fame and the almighty dollar. The removal of the ode to the Romans 1:16 scripture from Reach Record’s mission statement has some critics talking. Was the scripture removed to be more appeasing to the bigger record label?
I can’t say what Lecrae and his crew’s agendas were, but all I can say is how it speaks to me. These were the individuals who encouraged me to be unashamed of Christ. Is this move a reflection of the silencing of the radical Christian and the liberation of sin?
The world is becoming increasingly unashamed of their agendas. Everywhere in social media, in film, and in television, we see an influx of fearless supporters. The support is so fierce for their cause, that the homosexual community will even shun their own if they are not unashamed.
As believers, we’ve got to be unashamed of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. It is sad to admit, but in the Body of Christ, we have brothers and sisters who are losing their zeal and are becoming ashamed of sharing their testimonies—ashamed of praying in public, ashamed of giving a prophetic word, ashamed of living out loud.
Being unashamed is more than a fashionable Christian trend. It’s a lifestyle. After all, Mark 8:38 tells us if anyone is ashamed of Christ and His words within this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will be ashamed of them when he comes in his Father’s glory with the holy angels.
