Fashion ads have become very violent. There are ads that feature rape, sexual fetishes, models with black eyes and slashed body parts, women’s bodies in trunks, women getting attacked by men and women, and so on. Many too graphic for me to feel comfortable showing.
People often pass it off as being creative or expressive, no harm. But why does fashion need to be expressed in this way? Where does it come from? The spirit of perversion is very big in fashion. Perversion is the alteration of something from its original course, meaning, or state of distortion or corruption of what it was first intended. Sexual behavior or desire that is considered abnormal or unacceptable. Perversion can cause you to think that it is ok to dress a woman in a nice outfit with beautiful hair and makeup a picture her being sexuality assaulted by a group of men all in the name of “creativity.” Fashion’s original intent is not violence or rape, but it’s to service men and women, to provide them with a look that will help the, feel good about themselves. But because of perversion things became tainted. Also many of the violence is sexual, playing into the desires of people. When you see the displayed don’t accept it as normal. For every ad displaying violence there are hundreds of men and women suffering from it everyday and to them it is not glamorous or creative. It is abuse.
“Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.”
-Galatians 5:19-25
