What Up Wit Em: Gawvi (…Get Em!)

If you know anything about Christian rap…anything at all…you’ve heard a Gawvi production. Within the past 5 years he has become one of the most popular producers in Christian rap and a celebrated producer in the music industry period. A first generation American citizen, this Dominican/El Salvadorian music extraordinaire has worked with countless artists. After years of initially a protégé under top secular producers, in 2012 was given the opportunity to follow his dreams and remain true to his faith when he landed placement as the in house producer and engineer for Reach Records. As a music lover, as soon as the music tag line “Gawvi Get Em” comes through the speakers, you know that you are about to hear quality beats that are certified to blast in the streets. What Up Wit Em: Jonathan McReynolds

Jonathan McReynolds is known for his wide vocal range and smooth delivery of melody. He is also known for his beautiful acoustics and instrumentals that are vocally laced on his Life Music, Life Music: Stage Two, and new released Sessions EP (which is available now on iTunes, Google Play, and Spotify, by the way). But what many people don’t know his that he is also a part-time professor of music at Columbia College Chicago. It’s fitting for him, and not only because he graduated from the college in 2011 with a Bachelor’s in Urban and Popular Music. As a junior, one of his songs that he wrote and recorded from within his “in-dorm studio” was accidentally leaked on a local radio station, and thus marked the beginning of his ministry. His career started at the college, and now he’s giving back to the same program as a professor. Now that’s what’s up!
